KANPUR: Some welcome news for those aggrieved from troubled knees. Scorpio knee a defining advancement in faculty of knee-transplantation has reached the shores of the city.
And this knee-transplantation can be done with finger-sized cut inside the body, instead of long incisions stretching up to eight to ten inches in length earlier.
Scorpio knee, a brain-child of a French physician Dr G Villiers has yielded extremely positive results in field of knee-transplantation.

Explaining brighter aspects of scorpio-knee, Dr Villiers, who was here in the city said, "The bio-mechanics of scorpio knee is free of cumbersome techniques and it comes in several variants in the markets."
In his two-day stay in the city, Villiers will also operate on two knee-related cases. In this he will be assisted by city-based docs Dr Rajesh Vajpayee and Dr Abhishek Trivedi.
An added advantage of scorpio-knee according to Dr Villiers is that it strikingly suits Asian knees whose constitution is stocky. The tear-factor is whoppingly 80 per cent less and pain felt during transplantation figures out as almost negligible.

Talking to TOI, Dr Abhishek Trivedi said, "The earlier available techniques in the markets related to knee-surgery weren't compatible enough to help knees fold beyond 90 degree. But remarkable facility this scorpio knee offers to the patients is that they can now fold their knees almost up to 155 degree." Noticeably, it stands out as maximum permissible folding limit for a human being who is in his pink of health. The other benefits one can avail from this is that patients can maneouvre themselves in any required posture without straining their ligaments too much.
Dr Villiers who frequents India every six months, further said that a common misconception prevalent in minds is that after transplantation person cannot walk properly but reality is that one can walk straight and erect.
Currently, the transplantation is available in city and India at half the budget price of foreign markets.
